“Holy shit.” Chûya said, holding onto him as if he might be at risk of either falling or starting floating otherwise. Though, with how drunk he was, it wouldn’t be surprising at all. “You’re sooo red.” And, funnily enough, such a comment only caused Atsushi’s face to flush even redder. There was no denying it, though; not only had Atsushi drunk his share too (honestly, being in a slightly better state had turned out to be mostly luck), but the kiss had also taken its toll on him. 

In fact, he wasn’t even sure of how his own balance was staying more or less intact given it all. Luck, probably.

“You’re red too.” Atsushi countered, even if that barely counted as such. Besides, despite definitely counting as more drunk than he was, Chûya’s face wasn’t as rosy-colored.

“That’s on you, y’know.” And damn if he didn’t make it seem easier, flirting almost effortlessly, to the point of making him a bit jealous apart from the warmth coming from being the object of those comments. 

Of those compliments.

“I– c’mon, bet you tell that to any guy.” As an attempt to try and be as smooth, that phrase was definitely not fulfilling its purpose. But Chûya laughed, so Atsushi didn’t count it as a total failure either.

“Pfft, no way. Sure, I may’ve said it here and there, ‘kay. But not without meanin’ it, understood?”

Late Introductions are Better Than No Introductions, Right?

It suddenly occurred to me I never did a Tumblr intro thing. Not that I have to, but I feel like I should.

Anyway, a late hello and nice to meet you to the Tumblrverse. Name's ChaoticQuill. I go by "Quill" on Discord and AO3. My pronouns are she/her, and I am a BSD fanfic-obsessed adult.

I started writing BSD fanfic a little over two years ago. I'm here I guess to see what Tumblr has to offer in terms of fandom stuff. Twitter as a fandom space scares me.

If you follow me, expect brain rot and intolerableness. Lots of it. I'll also occasionally talk about writing in general because it's such a big part of my life.

I mainly write fluff, smut, and angst with a happy ending, both long and short form. My biggest claims to fame (I think) are a café AU that is now longer than the Bible and the abundance of Chuuatsu I have written.

Despite enjoying the "main" BSD ships (SKK, SSKK, Ranpoe, Fukumori), I collect rare pairs like Pokémon cards.

Ive been told many times that my Kins are *very* concerning and I just think its funny lol- Also I didn't share the Atsushi/Akutagawa fic cause its got NSFW stuff in it and I try not to share NSFW fics around too often just incase someones a minor n stuff yknow?? Cause I don't wanna be like 'oh here this fanfic I really enjoyed it even tho I skipped the nsfw bots' and have someone be like 'ew I'm a minor why did you share this with me never talk to me again!!' and stuff- cause like even tho I'm ALSO a minor idk brain things yknow? either way Ranpo is ALSO one of my kins, but like,, all my kins come together to make one big amalgamation of A Single Kin Pile?? Like Atsushi and Akutagawa are the main two, but Dazai and Ranpo are always mixed with them cause while Atsushi and Akutagawa cover most of my stuff, Dazai and Ranpo cover the rest of it perfectly so they all come together as groups- Which is technically a weird way to thin about kins but still :p Also not enjoying ChuuAtsu is SO valid!!! I am a v big multishipper so I enjoy any and all NON CREEPY ships :D!!

Atsushi packed the last of the gifts in a box and taped it up, taking extra care to mark it in his own little code. He was sure, if someone like Dazai or Ranpo found it, they would know immediately what was there- but as long as it didn’t raise any suspicion and he would remember what it was, he didn’t mind. What hurt worse knowing how many expensive gifts were sitting there, rotting in the back of his closet. However, he didn’t exactly have a lot of reasons to use most of them- no places to wear the expensive clothes, and the shinier objects - was it jewelry? - would definitely prompt a bunch of questions which he was not equipped to answer. How did Chuuya get his address, anyway?

Shaking his head, Atsushi decided he didn’t want to know how a mafia executive would go about getting his personal inspiration. He wondered if all the times Dazai insisted he escort him home were times he knew Chuuya was following. Shivering at the thought, Atsushi couldn’t help but glance out the window, as if he’d be able to see his admirer out there. Who knew? Clearly, Chuuya was a romantic, what with all the gifts he was sending- maybe he’d be standing outside Atsushi’s window with a boombox, throwing pebbles…

Still, receiving all these presents and not doing anything in return seemed wrong. With a sigh, he crawled over to his stash of office supplies and found an old card and a pen, figuring he’d at least write a thank you letter. Tapping the pen against his bottom lip, he tried to figure out where to start.

Dear Nakahara-san,

He stared at the name on the paper, trying to see if it felt wrong to be in correspondence with an enemy. Surprisingly- and concerningly, to Atsushi- he didn’t.

I have received all of your gifts, it seems. I…don’t know what to say. I’m flattered that you seem to think of me so often, and though I’d hate to be rude, I have to request that you stop.

Atsushi stopped for a moment. What did he want to tell Chuuya? Did he want to tell him to cut all contact? Did he want to arrange something else? Sticking his tongue out as he thought, Atsushi tapped the pen more furiously and began bouncing his foot.

I just don’t have many uses for such…elaborate and expensive gifts! I would hate for your money to go to waste on things I won’t use. 

…Besides, I’m…not sure I’d know how to deal with Dazai-san if he confronted me. I know the two of you don’t have the best history…or do I? Either way, it doesn’t seem like he’d be too fond of these arrangements, and I’d hate for things to be tense at work.

Still, thank you. For everything. I’ve gotten some use out of what you’ve given me and it’s all very nice. I hope this letter doesn’t offend you. 

Pausing again, Atsushi looked at the note. How should he sign off? His new relationship - or whatever it was - with Chuuya left a lot unknown for Atsushi. Gritting his teeth, he pressed his pen to the paper again before he could change his mind.

I"m going to come right out and say it: Current arc. It's dragged on so long. Monthly manga don't usually have as aggregious pacing issues, but oh my god. There is no end in sight right now.

Oh, so like, they they can kinda,, Feel them, but painlessly? Assuming I’m understanding correctly- Like, there’s pressure, but it isn’t overwhelming??? Like, they think being alive is great, but they don’t deserve it, because their poor senses of self also fused??? I’m sorry I’m a nerd ignore meee- AND AAAHHH IM GLAD YOU LOVE IT CHUUATSU IS PROBABLY DAMN NEAR TIED WITH DAZATSU FOR ME BECAUSE,, THE POTENTIAL,,, Anyways, I could see Atsushi and Akutagawa being friends here!!! Both because of ages, like you said, but also because they’re seen as the next coming of Chuuya and Dazai so they end up working together a lot. (Nyanon, 3/8)

Of course, without the motivation of “Dazai’s Subordinate” Akutagawa had in canon (and BEAST but that’s another painful story), I think they’d get along much better. As for Dazai,, see I’m very torn because on the one hand I have a darker version of things where he ends up the villain because he goes Full Unhealthy Yandere for the For Atsushi because he’s Interesting and Nice, An seems he rarely gets either of those things, much less both, but. (Nyanon, 4/8)

I also have a fluffier version where they meet be chance, and Dazai doesn’t realize that Atsushi is Chuuya’s “amazingly adorable, better than you could ever do” new apprentice, and Atsushi doesn’t realize that Dazai is Chuuya’s “awful, bandage wasting mackerel that you shouldn’t associate with” partner. Shenanigans ensue when they somehow manage to become friends (and yes, in the version, Dazai is nicer to Akutagawa when he becomes his mentor because. Fluff. (Nyanon, 5/8)

It’s mafia but I want Fluff, damnit). Anyways yeah Chuuya can and will Throw Hands if Dazai so much as suggests anything abusive in Atsushi’s general direction. But, my rambling aside, here’s the next AU Concept: I call it the In the Beginning AU, and in it, Atsushi and one or two others are primordial deities from before their universe really existed? Only for Atsushi to nearly get killed by something that woke up when they started experimenting with their abilities. (Nyanon, 6/8)

Meanwhile, his partner(s) got severely injured, and all of them lost their memories and became human. I’m not certain of too much yet, outside of the primordials being based around the “Who/What/Where/When/Why” and the Bad Thing being the “How.” What they’re called, however, is more along the lines of “Us/This/Here/Now,” though I haven’t figured out the equivalent for Why and How yet... I’m tired hush. Anyways, some of the associations are cemented. (Nyanon, 7/8)

11. Things you said when you were drunk // Chuuatsu

Atsushi tried to stop his boyfriend from drinking too much but unfortunately, he didn’t succeed so now he had to carry his drunk lover home.

Normally, Chuuya could handle his liquor quite well but to the misfortune of the weretiger, that day Dazai didn’t have any missions, which is why he decided to tag along on Atsushi’s usual visit to his boyfriend. Of course, Atsushi tried to stop his mentor from coming with him but that man was a pest sometimes (most times, actually), so he somehow managed to ignore any reasonable requests Atsushi made and went with him. 

Chuuya took on look at Dazai and sighed, told Dazai to fuck off, and then reassured Atsushi that it wasn’t his fault that, “The bastard is a pain in the ass.”

Naturally, Dazai chose to do the opposite of what the couple asked of him and stayed there to annoy his former partner further. 

The mafioso tried his best to ignore his former partner until they passed by a bar. Then Dazai and he fought for a bit and walked into the bar to get beyond-stress-levels drunk whilst the weretiger tried to stop them and failed. At some point, Dazai vanished into thin air, leaving Atsushi with his lover alone.

His very drunk lover.

So, now, he’s carrying his beloved to his apartment. Dazai is going to have a lot of paperwork to do the next day.

“Weretiger,” Chuuya mumbles, clutching his arm, “weretiger, pay attention... to what I’m saying…”

“Weretiger’s not my name, Chuuya.”

“But you’re a tiger.”

“A weretiger.”

“See!”

Atsushi sighs. God, he’s going to sleep in the next day. Fortunately, for him, it’s his free day. Dazai can work all alone on his goddamn stuff.

“Weretiger!”

“... Yes?”

“Your hair is soft.”

That’s exactly why he didn’t want Chuuya drunk.

“What conditioner do you use?”

“I don’t use conditioner.”

“What?!”

And there he goes—

“You can’t do that! Your hair is precious! Even if it looks like a flock of birds tried to eat it!”

Don’t drop him, don’t drop him, you love him, so don’t drop him—

After a few minutes of his boyfriend’s ramblings, they’ve finally made it to the dorms.

“Come on, Chuuya,” he mutters, too tired switch on the light. “Some of your clothes are in the closet.”

“My sweater! Did you steal it, weretiger?”

“Yes, I did,” he admits, “but still, please stop calling me weretiger! It makes me think of Akutagawa!”

“... You shouldn’t.”

Atsushi blinks before he stares into the other’s eyes.

“You shouldn’t think about anyone but me, weretiger.”

Atsushi sighs as he shoves the other onto the futon and makes his way to the bathroom. Seriously, why couldn’t Dazai just stay back?

After a few minutes, he lays down beside the other and closes his eyes, ready to fall asleep. But then he feels something press against his forehead, and he opens his eyes to fall into ocean-blue orbs. Chuuya is smiling gently at him and he just knows that he’s blushing. 

“Your voice is so warm,” the elder mumbles, sleep slowly overtaking him, ”Atsushi.”

Ah. He remembers just why he fell in love with the other.

Being the last ones standing sure had their perks, but also its disadvantages… like how every other single bed available had been taken, leaving Atsushi with what turned out to be a pretty decent-sized bed… and Chûya as a companion.

Well, maybe not a disadvantage. Just unexpected.

“It’s alright, there’s plenty of space for both of us.” As if he was somehow able to hear his thoughts, the redhead spoke. Sure, there would be a need to sleep close in order to fit in, but there was no risk of knocking each other out of the mattress on accident. Which was nice.

Did that ease Atsushi’s nervousness? Not at all.

“Still, Chûya-san, if you prefer, it can be all yours. I don’t min--.” He was then interrupted by a hand collapsing with the back of his head, without enough force to actually hurt but definitely noticeable.

“Nonsense.” Chûya then removed his hand, lowering it and wrapping his full arm around Atsushi’s shoulder. “I’ve been in sleepovers with way more people, like, one time we even managed to be four in a smaller bed than this. We’ll be fine. So c’mon, lead the way, don’t be shy.”

“Alright, then.” Holding onto the arm around him before anything, and feeling his nerves progressively fade, Atsushi moved forward.

I’m so glad I’m able to write lovemail to you, because I’ve honestly been wanting to for quite some time. I adore your writing for a lot of reasons, but the first that comes to mind is definitely how well you sell established relationships. With a lot of established relationship fics, I find it really hard to believe because the characterization is very… strange, at least to how I envision it. You do not have this problem. You slip into the relationship so easily, to the point that needn’t even get so far as to get actual confirmation to know that these two characters are together, love each other, and are perfect for each other. They just… are. And they are wholly together in a way that’s so easy to believe in terms of canon. The characterization is spot on, and elegant and perfect and I could ramble about it for longer than is strictly appropriate. That’s not even to mention the writing! Your style is so distinct, in so many little memorable ways. From the way you format things to the way you chose your words, it’s easy to recognize and I adore not only that consistency, but how well you make it work. You write distinctly like you and not like anyone else and it gives me endless joy to read your writing. I also just want to take a quick moment to mention how well you describe surroundings. You can paint really vivid pictures of the environments the characters are in, but only in a way that  makes it relevant to other things going on already in the story. It’s so easy to literally see where the characters are at any given time and you feel completely wrapped up in the world and the fic because of it. Thank you so very much for your writing, and for blessing us all with us, and I can’t wait to read more from you.

The sea seems so peaceful if one were to look from afar; however, its waters also take you to dangerous places. There is nothing peaceful about that.

This - This was just in the start of your fic and it’s already reeled me in! I love how the phrase is here again; it’s a very effective use of repetition! You’ve got me excited for Chuuya’s entry, and Atsushi’s reflection is already digging depth into their dynamic!

If so, he thinks, bitterness welling up in his heart as the possibility makes itself clear. Then he couldn’t be here. Not in a public place like this; if anything, the mafia would probably cause a ruckus and these people would be running for their lives right now if they were really here.

Another sigh escapes him as he looks away from the happiness surrounding him.

Oh my god these absolute dorks - This scene is so cute and I love that this is how their reunion plays out!

“Crybaby.” Chuuya huffs, albeit softly, irritation not evident in his voice. “I told you I’d be home, didn’t I?”

I’d want to cry, too. (You can tell from this entire thing that my emotions are kept on a leash that’s about as vulnerable and exposed as Atsushi’s shins. Or maybe you’re just a very talented writer. Hmm. Probably both?)

I love them. This is the first ChuuAtsu fic I’ve read and while I’d never disliked it before your writing made me fall for this ship hard. Your pacing is also so good? The plot just kept playing in my head and the conversation flowed in a very natural manner. Also I’ve read your other BSD story and really liked how you strung Rimbaud’s thoughts together! It was super interesting! (But for the sake of not spamming this event quotes from it weren’t included here) - Okay I’ll stop rambling but Happy Valentines! Jail and I don’t talk much, but I think it’s always a pleasure to see her around on the server when she pops in! She’s always so bright and bubbly, and her love for the rarest of rarepairs is adorable! I especially loved seeing her mini drabble about her Poecott fan child as I really like the trope of gifted characters realizing that they are gifted! I’d totally be interested to learn more about this OC and the world of BSD as she sees it, and what other fan children Jail may have! Overall I’m super glad to have Jail on the server and I hope to see more of her writing in general!

favorite thing about them: *inhales* Well, I’m going to go with his loyalty. He has such a dedication to the Port Mafia and to his subordinates, and I love it.

least favorite thing about them: these are some hot takes right here. 1) ENOUGH WITH D*ZAI. D*zai this, D*zai that. Look, I ship soukoku, okay? But give Chuuya the respect he deserves! He deserves to be his own character! If they knew he was going to be a popular character, maybe they should treat him as his own character. Just a thought. 2) All of F*fteen. I’ve never read it, and I never want to. From what I heard, I just don’t like it. He didn’t need a woobie/edgy backstory. I’m happy in willful ignorance/denial. Don’t talk to me about fift*en.

favorite line: This is from chapter 22 (translated by EGScans) when he is fighting Yosano. “Awesome plan. Go on, chop chop.” Honestly, iconic.

brOTP: I’d say Chuuya and Kouyou. I wish Asagiri would develop their relationship more.

unpopular opinion: Uh, I already put my hot takes above, but, of course, I have more. I don’t know if this is unpopular, but anime Corruption Chuuya is ugly.

Hello BSD anon here I think alot Like rn im thinking about the fact that I kin Akutagawa and Atsushi equally, but if I was to ever be either of them, if I was to ever have to look at myself and say 'out of those two, who are you more like' I would have to say Akutagawa- and I could ramble about how much that makes me sad and stuff and how I've tried so hard to be a good person my whole life- OR I could think about how I also Kin Dazai and pretend that has any corelation to me kinning those two as well :p On a different note I found this really good ChuuAtsu Fake Dating turned real dating fanfic earlier and its two chapters with over 89000 words and its tooth rotting fluff it actually made me feel sick it was so fluffy /pos I will share it if you want me too lol

ohhhh chuuatsu is a guilty pleasure of mine, nonnie! along with chuudazatsu asdlkfj I just don’t talk much about it because...have they....interacted...like at all in canon? I don’t know. But that doesn’t matter because it’s AU/CANON DIVERGENT TIME BABYYYYY

So the Port Mafia and ADA must team up to destroy yet another villain that I probably won’t describe because I’m bad with creating villains. I can write and think I promise-

Anyway! Dazai and Chuuya are on their way back after supposedly finishing a mission when they hear a commotion coming from a building that looks to be abandoned and crumbling. They go to investigate and run into a frazzled looking Atsushi. He tries to tell them to get out of there, that he’s being attacked and they all need to leave, when the building itself starts shaking. Atsushi jumps at the two of them (mainly aiming for Dazai probably) trying to push them out of the way and as the building around them crumbles, Atsushi and Chuuya end up trapped under some rubble. Dazai, who managed to avoid getting stuck, calls out.

“Atsushi-kun! Are you alright?”

“Yeah, I’m fine,” He calls out.

“Ok! I’m gonna go find Kenji-kun and see if he can help me. Stay put!”

“Yeah, I’m alright too, Dazai!” Chuuya yells. They both hear an exasperated sigh.

“Dammit. I was hoping you wouldn’t be.”

So Dazai goes off and Atsushi and Chuuya are trapped, having to be pretty close considering rubble doesn’t care about your comfort when it falls. They don’t talk much, and Atsushi finds it unbearable. Especially since before long Chuuya starts aggressively tapping his foot/bouncing his knee and it’s kind of driving Atsushi crazy-

“So, why do you hate Dazai so much?” He asks. Chuuya still, but Atsushi can practically feel the rag radiating off of him. Oh dear.

Chuuya starts ranting about how Dazai’s a manipulative asshole, a know it all, a show off, you name it, Chuuya attacks him for it. Atsushi is quiet the entire time, not wanting to make Chuuya angrier or have that anger directed towards him. When Chuuya seems to have calmed down, Atsushi says, “But don’t you think he has the ability to change? I think he already has.”

Chuuya stops. He isn’t used to much optimism in the mafia. After a second, he asks Atsushi what he means. Does he really believe Dazai’s changed? That he’s good? Can anyone change and be good? After a while, they bond over a few things. 1, they bond over talking about Dazai- Chuuya has his past and Atsushi has his present. 2, they bond over their reverence for life.

After a while of talking, Atsushi notices that Chuuya’s got some dirt in his hair and reaches over to comb it out with his hand. Chuuya grabs his wrist and gives him a confused glance, like what the heck are you doing touching my hair??

“Oh, sorry! Dazai doesn’t really stop me when he has things stuck in his hair, I just forgot- I didn’t mean-” he stammers, embarrassed. Chuuya slowly lets go and says,

“Well if there’s something there, get it out. I don’t need to be looking like an idiot.”

Boy takes care of his hair, so Atsushi runs his fingers through it a few more times than he needs to. When he goes to pull his hand away, Chuuya accidentally leans after his hand, so he keeps playing with his hair as they keep talking.

Atsushi has a fun time explaining to Kenji and Dazai why they found him and Chuuya so close.

“W-we were just getting cold! That’s it!”
